About
Katherine Kwa is a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow. She is working on improving the station-keeping design of floating offshore renewable energy infrastructure at the Civil, Maritime and Environmental Engineering Department, University of Southampton. She is also part of the Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Hub, and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) Chair Centre of Excellence for Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering (IROE).
Her first degree was in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from The University of Sydney, Australia where she also completed a PhD in 2019 on the ‘Liquefaction behaviour of shipped metallic ores from a soil mechanics perspective’. She moved to The University of Southampton in mid-2019 and is now using her background in geotechnical engineering to harness beneficial seabed effects around anchoring systems and embed them in station-keeping design to unlock floating offshore renewable energy infrastructure system efficiencies.
