Working with schools, colleges and local communities

The Recruitment, Outreach & Admissions Team works internally in partnership with our academic schools and students, and externally with community groups, schools and colleges locally and nationally. We run a variety of activities to encourage prospective students to consider higher education in general, and the University of Southampton in particular.

 ‘Learn with US’ Outreach Programme

The University of Southampton’s Learn with US Outreach programme is designed to support teachers, parents, students and community groups in the local area.

We have developed a wide range of activities to engage and motivate learners who have the potential to enter Higher Education among young people from under-represented groups and those who may not be currently considering it.

Students in Years 6-8 will take part in generic aspiration raising activities. From Year 9 to 13 students will follow a programme of activities related to the subjects in which they demonstrate a particular interest and key strengths. At the end of Year 8, students with the guidance of their teachers, will apply to join one of the following outreach strands:

  1. Medicine, Health Sciences and Social & Human Sciences
  2. Science and Engineering
  3. Humanities, Business, Law and Art
