When will accommodation offers be sent?

2025/26 applications

If you have made Southampton your firm or only choice (you have a conditional firm or unconditional firm course offer), you will be sent an offer of accommodation between 14 August and 5 September. You must meet the conditions of your course offer.

If you have made Southampton your insurance choice you will be sent an accommodation offer between 14 August and 5 September if you don't meet the conditions of your firm choice university.

Postgraduate accommodation applicants will receive accommodation offers from June 2025 onwards.

If you don't come to Southampton, your application will be cancelled and you don't need to do anything. If you accept an accommodation offer and then decide to withdraw or defer your course start, please email accommodation@soton.ac.uk so we can cancel your room and offer it to another student.

How to stay in halls for another year

If you want to stay in halls for another year, applications open for a short period each year for current students to apply. You can submit a returner application via the accommodation portal.

The application process is the same as for first-year students, with one important exception – you can apply with other students in a group.

When applying, you can enter your "Group reference/name" in the notes section before submitting the application. This Group reference/name must be agreed between your group, so try to make it unique so that there is no confusion with other groups.

We must receive an application from everyone in the group individually and we encourage you to submit the same site/room type/catering/contract preferences.

Returner applications for 2026/27 will open in February/March 2026.

Students with children

The University has a limited quantity of family houses for students with children. If you're coming to Southampton with your partner and/or children, you must use our online form to request family accommodation.

Any offer made will be subject to us having a property available that is suitable for your family size.
