The Department has a tradition of excellence in both research and teaching, evident both in the history of the Department and in the character of the Department today.

Archaeology at Southampton was ranked within the top six departments in the country by the 2007 Guardian University league table.

Masters' degrees

We teach a wide range of masters' degrees, some general, some focusing on areas where we have particular strengths. The topics they cover include maritime archaeology, palaeolithic archaeology, ceramic and lithic analysis, osteoarchaeology, archaeological computing and social archaeology.

Postgraduate research degrees

For the third successive time Archaeology at Southampton achieved a grade 5 in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.
