Music staff

Staff and students attend a lectureOur Academic staff members specialise in musicology, composition, music technology and performance studies; follow the link to find out more about their research and teaching interests by checking their individual profiles. Music also hosts Research fellows working on specific group or individual projects, as well as Early Career fellows on the School of Humanities's programme of Early Career Fellowships in Music. For some units, Southampton employs specialist teaching staff who are active practioners in their professional fields. Music is part of a strongly interdisciplinary School of Humanities: there are several staff members based in other Humanities divisions whose research and teaching reflects their interest and expertise in music, and who are available to supervise or co-supervise student work.

Performance teaching at Southampton is led by Heads of Studies for each instrument group or style, under the overall supervision of Head of Performance Dr Angela Space.  Heads of studies conduct fortnightly workshops with their groups and oversee students' individual lessons with our team of instrumental and vocal teachers

Music lecturerThe Administration team looks after admissions, lunchtime concert organisation, and room bookings, among many other tasks; see the list of their responsibilities and contact details for help in directing any enquiries.
