Dr Athina Vlachantoni, Lecturer in Gerontology at the Centre for Research on Ageing, was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Teaching Award.

The Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Awards are annual awards made to individuals who have demonstrated a particularly high standard of teaching.

Athina has played a major role in the expansion of innovative Gerontology programmes at the postgraduate level since 2007-8, including the launch of the Distance Learning programme in 2009-10. Athina also led the Gerontology team's successful application for 10 Commonwealth Scholarships in order to enable students from Commonwealth to study on the MSc Gerontology (Distance Learning) programme in 2012-13.

She comments, "I was delighted to receive this award, and it was very special to receive it during the graduation ceremony, in front of the students and their families, as well as my colleagues from the Centre for Research on Ageing."
