My background is in public health and I have an interest in research within ageing, but lacked a professional degree. I chose Southampton due to its position as one of the world’s top universities and that it has a dedicated gerontology department with internationally renowned work.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

My background is in public health and I have an interest in research within ageing, but lacked a professional degree. I chose Southampton due to its position as one of the world’s top universities and that it has a dedicated gerontology department with internationally renowned work. The Commonwealth Scholarship was also a big factor as without this I wouldn’t have been able to undertake a master’s degree.

What is it like studying at the University?

The lecturers are fantastic and not only teach you through their lectures but also inspire you with their work in the field of gerontology though their published work. The modules are well designed, and we receive constant support from the department, who also provide skill-building sessions like critical thinking, academic integrity and becoming a professional researcher.

What are you most proud of from your time at Southampton so far?

The highlight for me is having the opportunity to work with a group of international students with different experiences. I have produced 3 manuscripts since starting on the course and I can see the difference in the structure and quality of my work.

What will you do with your degree/research after you have finished your studies?

I will work with research organisations working for older people, and with my background in universal health coverage I will focus on the social protection aspect.
