National Archaeology week Event

A full day event (Saturday 12th July from 11am to 5pm) with demonstrations and hands-on activities focussing on how to do Archaeology.

Have a go at using survey equipment and analysing and interpreting archaeological materials. Includes experimental sessions in making replica artefacts, including flint knapping. Hampshire County Council Archaeology Section will also be involved in this event - so you can come along and consult the Historic Environment Record to find out about the Archaeology near where you live. There will also be short talks by members of staff on archaeological projects from around the world:

  • 12 noon Prof David Hinton. Made for King Alfred the Great? The Alfred jewel
  • 2pm Prof Tim Champion. What Eurostar did for Archaeology ...
  • 3pm Dr Alison Gascoigne. The Minaret and town of Jam: archaeology in Afghanistan
