Dwayne Browne MSc Knowledge and Information Systems Management, 2008
Personalisation Delivery Lead, Accenture Interactive
Hi, I'm Dwayne Browne and I studied MSc Knowledge and Information Systems Management within Southampton Management School at the University of Southampton.
Having been taught by a team of academics who are involved in cutting edge research meant we were able to tap into their knowledge and expertise. Coming here has introduced me not only to a new way of thinking, but also career paths I didn’t know existed.
I worked as a Systems Engineer for Fujitsu Caribbean before taking up a postgraduate study in Southampton, funded by loans, including a Barbados Student Loan. Southampton offers one of the most complete and recognised courses in information systems in the UK, teaching applied theory and providing an insight into IT/IS as it relates to business strategy. I love the information field, it’s what I know best and I saw this programme as a way of putting my pieces together and taking me to a next step in my career.
On coming to the University, I discovered it was one of the largest and most diverse cultural basins I would ever see, with students coming from Far East, south and west.
The University’s orientation spoke of tolerance and consideration for persons of other races and cultural backgrounds from day one. When I arrived there was a useful and effective induction. Items like Internet cables and phone cards came in very handy and being able to buy a duvet set from my reception was excellent!
I also worked part time as a contracted web developer for a small company in Barbados. The work I did was based on a predetermined project time frame, with no strict work time per day, which meant my studies were not affected for the most part.

I am currently working as a web analyst for a London based Digital Agency called LBi. It is amazing here; I work on several clients across different verticals. The company is quite big and has a really hip, easy going working environment, completely different from companies in the Caribbean.
Overall, I expect the knowledge and skills gained as part of my study in Southampton will allow me to be involved in larger projects in the field and to become an influential stakeholder in the projects I’m already involved in.
