Southampton Business School - Alumni Inspiring Series: Session 3
On 17th November 2021, Southampton Business School (SBS) and the Faculty International Office (FIO), hosted our third Inspiring Series session.
During this session SBS students, alumni and staff around the world learned about Dr Alistair Beecher’s impressive career. After completing his degree in Accounting and Statistics at Southampton in 1983, Alistair Beecher spent nearly 30 years in professional services with Price Waterhouse (PwC) and Ernst & Young (EY) working in audit, corporate tax and expatriate tax in London and the regions. He completed secondments overseas, to technical training and to an in-house tax department and undertook various client delivery, management and leadership roles. After ‘retiring’ in 2012 he returned to academic study as a mature student at Oxford University and now works there as a Departmental Lecturer running a development and research skills programme for doctoral students and teaching history.
Dr Philip Alford (Lecturer in Digital Marketing and Director of Careers, Employment, Placements & Alumni Relations (CEPAR) in Southampton Business School) hosted the session and conversed with Alistair asking questions about his career decisions and experiences. Alistair highlighted the blend of technical and non-technical skills that graduates require to enhance their employability and success in the workplace.
