It has been a challenging year for the accounting profession which has been in the headlines on a regular basis, and more often than not, for the wrong reasons.

'Making Accounting Great Again', is an evening with Nick Parker (President of the ICAEW 2017-18) reflecting on his year in office, the challenges facing the profession today and how the profession, its firms and its members can regain their position as purveyors of trusted advice their status as the competent authority on ethics within business.

They provide qualifications and professional development, share our knowledge, insight and technical expertise, and protect the quality and integrity of the accountancy and finance profession.

Speaker information

Nick Parker , ICAEW. is the Immediate Past President of ICAEW; he was President during 2017-2018, and chaired its Board. He is an active member of Council and has been for 23 years. He is a tax partner with RSM UK. He has a wide portfolio of clients including professional partnerships and UK subsidiaries of overseas parent companies, he mainly specialises in the SME sector. During his time on Council he has chaired a variety of committees including the Members Board, the Committee of Council and the Audit Committee. He was Chairman of Council for three years.

Richard Cartwright , Principal Teaching Fellow . is a Principal Teaching Fellow at Southampton Business School. He is a Chartered Accountant with experience working in both Higher Education and professional practice. He works closely with the ICAEW serving as a Council Member, Chairing their Assessment Committee and sitting on their Learning and Professional Development Board. He is a Past President of ICAEW Southern and the Southern Chartered Accountant Students Society. In 2017 Richard was appointed to the Department for Education T-Level Advisory Panel for Accounting, and in autumn 2018 he will take a seat on the University of Southampton’s Council which approves the strategic plans of the University and is ultimately responsible for its finances, buildings and staff.
