Professor Paul Drew

Professor Paul Drew is a leading scholar in Conversation Analysis, with an international reputation for his research into the basic processes of ordinary interaction as well as the application of CA to the study of language/communication in social institutional (medical, legal etc.) settings.

Paul is working closely with Dr Geraldine Leydon on interrogating her cancer helpline corpus to identify communicative practices that can enhance the effectiveness of helpline calls. Geraldine and Paul are co-supervising Catherine Woods' doctoral work, which will also investigate the cancer helpline corpus.

Paul is a Co-Investigator on the EPaC study, a proof of concept study, building on the work of Professor John Heritage and Professor Jeffrey Robinson. The study will be conducted in general practices across Southern England.
