Event details

Capturing the castle

This lecture will consider the architectural evolution of the castle in England during the Middle Ages and the ways in which its distinctive forms have subsequently been explored in the domestic tradition since the 17th century. It will also explore the continuing fascination of patrons and architects with the aesthetic possibilities of castle design in the English tradition of grand domestic architecture.

This event also marks the opening of Southampton City Art Gallery's summer exhibition 'Capture the Castle', more details of which can be found at: www.southamptoncityartgallery.com/whats-on/capture-the-castle
