Dr Peter Happe is a Visiting Fellow in English at the University of Southampton.

My first degree was in English at Queens' College, Cambridge (1955); after a Certificate in Education, I gained an MA in English at Birkbeck College, London, followed by a London PhD I have taught English at a variety of schools and colleges, and was appointed Principal of Rutland Sixth Form College and later of Barton Peveril Sixth Form College; I have also been a Tutor and Associate Lecturer of the Open University since 1983, taught undergraduate courses at Cambridge, Southampton, and Tours Universities, and supervised PhD students at Southampton and Tours. I was a visiting professor of the University of Tours in 1994, and was awarded the Medal of Honour of the City of Tours in 2002; I held a Hartley Fellowship at the University of Southampton in 1995-6, and was a Research Associate at the Open University from 1996-9.

I have published extensively on medieval and early Renaissance drama.

Research interests

I am now co-editing , with Wim Hüsken, the Ludus series on Medieval and Early Renaissance Theatre and Drama for Rodopi.

Current interests include contributions to the forthcoming editions of Ben Jonson (Cambridge University Press) and James Shirley (Oxford University Press).
