Miss Kristina Turner is Postgraduate research student within English at the University of Southampton.

I'm a writer and translator specializing in the application of the esoteric traditions to contemporary thought. I hold a BA in English Literature from Royal Holloway College, The University of London (1988) and an MA in Medieval and Renaissance Culture from the University of Southampton (2011). I'm currently studying for a PhD  within English at Southampton, but supported by the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture's excellent training resources in paleography and Latin, and its international contact networks in Early Modern studies.

Research interests

My research focuses on the dramatist Ben Jonson and the influence of the esoteric traditions on his work. I recently presented a paper entitled ‘A Literary Response to the Science and Philosophy of Early Modern Magnetism - Ben Jonson's Allegory of The Magnetic Lady' at the Early Modern History of Science conference Scientiae (Warwick) 2013, and am particularly interested in the understanding of mind and soul in the Early Modern period. This involves studying Alchemy, Rosicrucianism, early Freemasonry, Cabala and other esoteric traditions as well as Jonson's writings, with particular emphasis on his later dramatic works. I am currently working on a paper on Jonson's allegorical use of houses and how emblematic thinking on the house as a metaphor for the inner world manifested across the esoteric traditions. Samples of my research in progress can be read on my website.

Other Activities

I edit the Gurdjieff Internet Guide and am a member of the planning committee and reading panel of the All and Everything International Humanities Conference.
