On 23rd July, faculty staff and academics from the Faculty of Social Sciences held an event at Three Years Old Café in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia attended by University of Southampton alumni and offer holders.

The aim of the event was to meet with incoming Malaysian students for the 2022/23 academic year and prepare them for their time in the UK, with a theme of "Connect, Support, Engage - Together we Grow the Southampton Community".  The event was also a great opportunity to reconnect with alumni and to invite them to share their experiences in Southampton with the new cohort through personal stories and anecdotes.

The in-person event was organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences International Office and was hosted by Prof Sabu Padmadas (Associate Dean International, Faculty of Social Sciences) and Song Pan Utz (Senior Executive Officer, Faculty of Social Sciences International Office). Dr Stephan Onggo (Professor of Business Analytics), Dr Larisa Yarovaya (Associate Professor of Finance) and Dr Ajit Nayak (Associate Professor of Strategy) were also in attendance to speak with all attendees and answer any further questions they may have about the university.

During the event, alumni from different years shared their stories and advice to the current offer holders with some stories stretching back as far as 1999. After speaking to many of the attendees and answering the questions posed to them by the audience, the hosts presented a short quiz with questions related to the university and the city of Southampton with the winners being awarded University of Southampton merchandise.

Song Pan Utz thanked those who attended to make the event a success. We look forward to meeting some of the incoming students on campus soon.

Dr. Ajit Nayak reflected: “It was great to meet students in a relaxed environment. Lovely to hear fond memories of time in Southampton from past students. And a great opportunity to warmly welcome new students joining us this academic year.”
