On 2nd December 2022, we hosted our third Faculty of Social Sciences’ Global Food Festival event. The team is excited to have been able to resume this event after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Staff and students represented countries from around the globe, by sharing a part of their home culture with the Faculty community.

For this diverse event, attendees home-prepared their unique cuisines and brought these to the Garden Court venue for sharing. We were also treated to live music and dance performances by talented student performers.

The Faculty International Office team would like to thank our staff and students who attended for making the event a success! We would also like to share our appreciation for our talented students for their exemplary cooking skills and spectacular live performances.

We hope everyone enjoyed the International Food Festival as much as we did, and invite students and staff from across the Faculty to join us for more cultural celebration events in the future!

Song Utz (Senior Executive Officer of Faculty International Office) said: “As a famous Chinese saying goes 民以食为天, food is the first priority to people’s lives. Food speaks louder than anything of the character of a nation. Whether it’s the colours, flavours, the way it’s prepared or the way it’s shared, all the attention to detail exemplifies the essence of life.

I want to thank the attendees who came to the Faculty of Social Sciences Global Food Festival at University of Southampton! It’s a great pleasure to share the joyful moments with you through wonderful international cuisine. In many cultures, food is love, our loved ones express their affection by asking us to eat more. Thank you for bringing your favourite dishes to share at the event – we definitely have felt your love!

I was also deeply impressed by our student performers. Many were at professional level. They took us from the East to the West, from modern time to ancient sentiment. Through artistic talent and culinary delight, India, Italy, China, Norway, Indonesia, we travelled the world with our senses and hearts.

Another great teamwork, FSS Faculty International Office! The world is our oyster. Let's eat!”
