Oceans, Engineering X and SBCL showcased at LRF Safer World Conference

The Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF) Safer World Conference was hosted at the Old Billingsgate Fish Market in London 10 – 11 May 2022. LRF CEO Richard Clegg opened proceedings celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the Foundation. Incoming LRF CEO Ruth Boumphrey opened the morning session on Building Safe and Sustainable Oceans, showcasing the recent LRF Foresight Review on Ocean Safety: Engineering a Safe and Sustainable Ocean Economy (see article here ).
The ocean-focus continued in the afternoon with a deep dive into seaweed as a sustainable food source for the globe, exploring how safety is fundamental for the responsible development of the seaweed revolution.

The Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute led project Solid Bulk Cargo Liquefaction: Strategies for Effective Control had a physical and virtual booth at the conference, supported by Emily Reid, Madison Stevens, Fatima Ozcan, Susan Gourvenec and Wassim Dbouk.

Susan Gourvenec, Board member of the Engineering X Safer End of Engineered Life Programme and Theme Lead for Safer Decommissioning of Offshore Structures and Ships, also got to spend time with the Engineering X team and several Engineering X Champions who had come over for the conference.
