The project team for the SMMI-led Lloyd’s Register Foundation funded initiative “Solid Bulk Cargo Liquefaction: Strategies for Effective Control” had a strong presence at the recent LMA Solid Bulk Cargo Liquefaction Seminar this year – which back after a two year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The two day workshop, hosted in London over 23-24th November covered a range of aspects of SBCL – highlighting the diversity of challenges facing the sector, covering engineering, testing, surveying, insurance, regulation, law, lawlessness, and commercial tensions that influence behaviours.

The SMMI-LRF project was represented at the workshop by project coordinator and engineering solutions lead, Prof Susan Gourvenec, Policy Fellow Wassim Dbouk, Law PhD student Madison Stevens and Engineering researcher Piotr Kowalczyk.

Susan gave an update on the SMMI-LRF project across each of the workstreams – engineering solutions, data & comms, and law & regulation, which was followed up with a panel discussion with a selection of project partners – Peter Gercans of MFB Solicitors, Nick Crouch of Brookes Bell, and Olivia Swift of Lloyd’s Register Foundation.
