IROE Chair Susan Gourvenec FREng highlighted on Engineering Icons Tube Map for National Engineering Day

Chair in Emerging Technologies, Professor Susan Gourvenec, was highlighted on an ‘Engineering Icons’ Tube Map , developed as a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Engineering and Transport for London (TfL) for National Engineering Day.

Professor Gourvenec posted some reflections on the honour via LinkedIn on National Engineering Day

“Wonderful to be part of the Engineering Icons Tube Map for #NationalEngineeringDay - thank you @RAEngNews and @TfL! Especially great to be in East London at East Ham Station, just a few stops along the District/Hammersmith & City Line from Stepney Green and Mile End where I studied for my civil engineering degree. Also just a stone's throw (although a change to the Central Line!) from where I started life in Leytonstone.

Honoured to be stationed between 'the father of civil engineering', John Smeaton' and the remarkable Harvey Hudson, one of the young engineers of this year's #ThisIsEngineering campaign, who I had the pleasure of meeting at this year's launch. Spanning nearly 300 years of engineering practice, and all working towards the same goal to improve lives. Also excited to be just a few stops from the amazing Dame Sarah Springman, an incredible role model, inspiration and supporter throughout my career. Shout out to the superb Lord Robert Mair for all his tunnelling work that has enabled various bits of the London Underground - old and new, and enjoyed our work on the Victorian tunnels at Kennington!”
