Dr Grace Chai PhD

Dr Grace Chai's photo

Dr Chai is an experimental optoelectronics material physicist and has active research collaborations with theoretical and experimental physicists across the UK, USA, Europe and Asia.

Her research interests include III-V semiconductor materials, mid-infrared and far-infrared optoelectronics and waveguide designs for biomedical applications.   

Dr Chai joined the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus in 2015 as a lecturer. Currently, she teaches Solid State and Semiconductor Devices. 

Prior to joining the University, Dr Chai has more than 10 years of work experience in the industry practising as an engineer and a project manager for Agilent Technologies and Telekom Malaysia, respectively. In 2014, she finished her PhD in Semiconductor Physics at University Teknologi Malaysia.

Research interests

Dr Chai's research interests include: 

  • III-V semiconductor material studies
  • Mid-infrared and far-infrared optoelectronics studies
  • Waveguide designs for biomedical applications
