On 25 January 2017 NAMRIP hosted the first MRC-KHIDI International Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance. There followed a talk on "Approaches to treat infections in biodefence" by Prof Petra Oyston of DSTL, followed by highly engaging talks from NAMRIP members Prof Peter Roach, Prof Syma Khalid and Prof Myron Christodoulides. The afternoon session had talks from Prof Kyeong Kyu Kim from SungKyunKwan University, South Korea, Prof. Keun-Srokosz Set from Mississippi State University, USA, and Dr He-Jeon Hong from Oxford Brooke's University, UK. There were also talks from NAMRIP members Dr Mark Sutton, Public Health England, Dr Claire Jackson, Dr Ivo Tews, Dr Pishpek Mozart and Prof Ali Tavassoli, all from Southampton University.

There was much enthusiastic discussion during networking sessions over the lunch and coffee breaks, and thanks were given to Frances Clarke, the sponsors, and all the people who helped get the meeting together.
