Biography
Ellen Van Leeuwen is a GP (2010) in a Community Health Centre in Ghent (Belgium) and Clinical Pharmacologist (2016). She works at the Unit Clinical Pharmacology (Ghent University) and is involved in pharmacotherapy education and research in polypharmacy, deprescribing and appropriate use of psychotropics. She is also involved in Evidence-Based Practice education at the Centre of General Practice. She defended her PhD “deprescribing psychotropics in primary care” in Spring 2022.
Summary
Ellen will present her PhD and reflect on deprescribing from a broader perspectives. In her PhD, she did 2 Cochrane reviews: one on stopping antipsychotic drugs in elderly with dementia and one on stopping antidepressant drugs (with co-author Prof Tony Kendrick), and added qualitative research on stopping antidepressant drugs ( with Belgian patients and GPs).
