Reimagining where we live: cultural placemaking and the levelling up agenda

Published: 29 March 2022

Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities (SIAH) colleagues Professor Nicky Marsh, Dr Dan Ashton and Dr Michael Howcroft contributed to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee Inquiry on Reimagining where we live: cultural placemaking and the levelling up agenda. The inquiry posed questions around culture and the reanimation of public spaces, local decision-making and infrastructure, and the levelling- up agenda.

The written evidence can be accessed here. Recommendations to government made in submission by the SIAH team relate to: metrics to understand what creative initiatives bring to communities; how smaller-scale organisations and individuals connect to their local decision-making bodies in sustainable and effective ways; the development of a local creative skills agenda; and the use of creative methods to allow for more diverse and imaginative forms of consultation.
