The Centre for Democratic Futures (CDF) of the University of Southampton invites you to a panel discussion via ZOOM on Sofia Näström’s book “The Spirit of Democracy”.

Please register for the event here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIqdeqpqDopH9INkjlfl3USgX5ZOU9OaXxQ (Those who already registered don’t need to do it again.)

On June 21st 2021, Sofia Näsström published a book called “The Spirit of Democracy: Corruption, Disintegration, Renewal”. In this book, Sofia asks “how does one revitalise democracy in times of crisis?” This book shows that while we have good reasons to worry about the corruption of democratic practices and ideals, these worries are often attributable to questionable assumptions about what democracy is. In this “Meet the authors” event, we will welcome the author Prof. Sofia Näsström, who is Professor at the Department of Government, Uppsala University, Sweden.

Join us in dialogue with the discussants: Dr. Mathias Koenig-Archibugi, Associate Professor of Global Politics in the Department of Government and the Department of International Relations of the London School of Economics and Political Science; Prof. Nadia Urbinati, Kyriakos Tsakopoulos Professor of Political Theory at Columbia University; and Prof. Jason Frank, John L. Senior Professor of Government at Cornell University.

The event will be moderated by Prof. David Owen, Professor of Social and Political Philosophy within Politics at the University of Southampton. There will be an opportunity to engage with the authors and discussants in Q&A. The event will be recorded, but the Q&A session will not.

We look forward to seeing you at the event! You can read more about it here.
