Rosalynd Jowett

Biography

Rosalynd Jowett RGN; RCNT; DipN; PG Dip Social Research; MEd. is the Associate Dean, Education and Student Experience and University Director of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southampton.

She trained as a nurse at the Nightingale School of Nursing, St Thomas’ Hospital, London and her career has involved senior roles in clinical practice and education leadership in health care education. Before joining the University of Southampton in 2003, she worked in various Schools of Nursing and played a significant role in the integration of nursing into higher education with the Tor and Southwest College of Nursing and subsequently, with the University of Exeter and University of Plymouth.

She is actively engaged in workforce issues in the NHS at local and national level and in particular, curriculum development initiatives to meet the demands of a changing health care workforce and promoting strategic and curriculum innovations in interprofessional learning. The majority of her leadership experience is in leading organisational change and ensuring resulting achievements are sustainable.

As Associate Dean, Education & Student Experience and University Director of Education, her primary function is to support the Dean of the Faculty and Pro Vice Chancellor Education in promoting excellence in the Learning and Teaching in the Faculty and University, leading on the education strategy of the Faculty and actively contributing to the wider health care education agenda at national and international level.

Rosalynd is an active member of the Council of Deans for Health and represents the Council on relevant national agendas and is Chair of the Higher Education Academy Health Network Group Advisory Board.

Her research interests include analysing the effectiveness of policy implementation in higher education and health sectors and effectiveness of new methods in learning and teaching.

Previous research projects include Implementing Competency Recommendations into Pre registration Nursing Curricula: Effects upon Levels of Confidence in Clinical Skills: Evaluative Study of Role of Practice Educator and Models and Processes for Recognition and Reward of Individual Teaching Excellence in Research Intensive Universities; Education leadership in Research Intensive Institutions.
