MS 399 Papers of (Cecilia Maureen) Anne Baring, alias Mother Margaret Mary Paul Baring

Anne Baring

(Cecilia Maureen) Anne Baring (1922-2011) was the daughter of Richard Baring and Violet (alias Violetta) Baring née Archer. She was educated at convents of the Order of the Assumption, later choosing a religious life with the Order and within it a career in teaching. She eventually became headmistress of Hengrave. While a Roman Catholic nun she was known as Mother Margaret Mary Paul Baring.

Anne Baring left the Order in the late 1960s and went to Sheffield University to study for a degree in religious studies.

She joined the Council of Christians and Jews as its education officer; it was here that she was to spend most of the rest of her working life. Anne Baring spent much of her time researching and travelled extensively.
