Qualifying as an environmental consultant

Though jobs are becoming more abundant, you still need a high level of education and relevant work experience to get into this sector.

Qualifications

  1. A good honours degree is the minimum entry requirement for jobs in this career path. Geography is a good undergraduate degree for this role.
  2. While studying it may be prudent to choose a dissertation topic relevant to this field to show a level of dedication to the field and to gain experience.
  3. Postgraduate qualifications are common amongst applicants and are becoming expected by employers.

Work experience

Though many employers like to see work experience, not all will insist on it. Employers with graduate schemes are willing to invest in graduates and train them, so head directly for graduate opportunities if you don’t have experience.

To show commitment to the career path you are applying to, consider student membership of a chartered institution related to the jobs you are applying for.
