Who we are

Instructing nurses in use of equipment

Training the next generation of health professionals

Health Sciences at the University of Southampton is training the next generation of professionals in nursing, midwifery, health and social care, physiotherapy, podiatry and occupational therapy.

The Times newspaper ranked us number one in England in its influential survey of university departments; our impressive research portfolio in nursing and midwifery won us second place in the UK’s latest independent assessment of research quality (RAE 2008).

Our vision is to create a world-class environment of learning and discovery. Improving health outcomes and transforming health care drives our ambitions locally, nationally and globally. Practitioners who train at Southampton are well-placed to become expert clinicians and leaders across health and social care.

Our academic staff work together in multidisciplinary research groups tackling challenging issues such as cancer, palliative and end-of-life care, rehabilitation and the organisation of care.

Teaching tomorrow’s professionals

Healthcare is changing. Our degree programmes feature interdisciplinary learning to give you experience of working alongside other healthcare professionals right from the start.

Transforming healthcare

Research makes a difference. Our experienced academics are directly involved with up-to-the-minute innovatives in hospitals and clinics. Their lectures and seminars go far beyond the text book.
