Innovative education
Health Sciences has a well-respected reputation for the high priority it affords to relationship management, employer engagement and working in partnership.
As a top centre for healthcare research, we are proud to have earned a global reputation for innovation. But our discoveries do not just exist on paper.
Instead, we are committed to working in partnership with public and private enterprise to develop our findings and ultimately bring them onto the global healthcare market.
Our philosophy is to constantly improve practice by challenging norms and searching for innovative and radical solutions to today's problems.
We see our past students as key partners for the future; helping us to maintain and improve our research activities. That is because these individuals often represent leading lights in their fields, thanks to their remarkable talents, and of course their research-led educations.
At the moment we are working in partnership with a number of public and private organisations in the name of progress.
One of our research groups has adopted Hollywood movie technology, which accurately maps the movement of the human hand; helping us to understand and treat complaints like arthritis more effectively.
The project known as HAWK has also drawn investment from companies who recognise its other potential applications. For example, it has proved very effective in helping pianists analyse their playing techniques.
Then there are is our UN sponsored project to train midwives in South Sudan, and our work on non-medical prescribing too.
At the same time, our healthcare consultancy service continues to give professional advice and guidance on healthcare policy to governments and private clinics both here at home and also overseas.
