Dr Alexandros Ntovas speaks on autonomous ships at the Global Ocean Regime international forum in Seoul

On 5-8 Nov 2023, Dr Alexandros Ntovas was invited to attend the ‘Global Ocean Regime Conference’, which was hosted by the Republic of Korea in Seoul and was exceptionally organised by the Korea Maritime Institute. He participated also as a speaker in the panel on ‘Emerging Technology and the Law of the Sea’, together with Professor James Kraska (Harvard/ Stockton Center for International Law, US Naval War College) and Professor Clive Schofield (World Maritime University).

Dr Ntovas delivered his speech on the matter of ‘Safety/security in the era of autonomous navigation: reflections on the ongoing regulatory developments from the perspective of the UNCLOS’. The panel was chaired by Professor Keun-Gwan Lee, who currently serves in the United Nations International Law Commission).

Moreover, Dr Ntovas continues to supervise in the area of autonomous ships several a growing team of doctorate candidates, who had themselves significant research engagements in 2023.
