Studying at Southampton gave me an insight into common law that I could not have attained through studies in my home country. Furthermore, I gained a solid maritime law basis that I continue to build on today.

What does your job entail?

Developing standard contracts and clauses for the shipping industry.

How/why did you get into that role?

Challenging and interesting work. I like project management. Got the job through network.

What is interesting/unique about it?

The work is not-for-profit and benefits the entire shipping industry. It is a large responsibility and the continuous success is wholly dependent on the trust that the industry has vested in BIMCO.

How did studying at UoS Law School prepare you for your role?

The LLM gave me a good foundation for understanding and working with maritime law, particularly in an English law perspective.

Has studying Law helped to shape your thinking and attitude to life?

My thinking and attitude has remained the same throughout my studies. Over the years, I have become more confident but I see this as a life development – to which my studies have been a contributing factor, but not the sole cause.

Can you say why studying at Southampton was special? Did you create a network of friends for life or meet an amazing lifelong mentor?

Studying at Southampton gave me an insight into common law that I could not have attained through studies in my home country. Furthermore, I gained a solid maritime law basis that I continue to build on today.
