Bill Benter

After spending 2 years at Case Western University studying Philosophy and Physics, and a further year at the University of Bristol, Professor Bill Benter set up his own business. He employed a variety of econometric modelling techniques to examine an important financial market- the horserace betting market in Hong Kong. He developed a successful computer-based econometric model to forecast outcomes in this market. Bill has become the world's foremost expert in the data requirements of such a model and in the technical and subjective difficulties which the application of such an approach to investment can produce. He has also developed important insights into theoretical aspects of forecasting models.

Professor Bill Benter is currently Chairman and International CEO of Acusis LLC, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and has presented papers at a number of international conferences, as well as delivering lectures at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (1999, 2001, 2002), Stanford University (2002), Harvard University (2002), Carnegie Mellon University (2006), City University of Hong Kong (2004), University of Southampton (2006, 2007), University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2003). Bill provides regular help, guidance and support to PhD students in the School of Management. In addition he is a regular visitor to the School of Management, providing advice and guidance on research issues and he currently sponsors a lectureship in speculative market behaviour within the School.
