Money matters

As a postgraduate student you will need to pay annual tuition fees to the University for your programme of study. You may be able to apply for funding to help you cover your costs.

When planning your finances, you will also need to consider other expenses such as living costs, accommodation fees and study materials. Visit the University’s Postgraduate fees and funding page for more information about living costs.

Fees

These vary according to the type of programme you choose (eg research or taught; classroom-laboratory- or workshop-based; clinical). Fees charged for full-time non-EU international students include the full cost of tuition, examinations, Students’ Union membership and research support expenses. Bursaries

Alumni Discount for University of Southampton Students

The University offers a 10% discount off tuition fees to any undergraduate University of Southampton student who wishes to undertake further study onto one of the full-time MSc programmes available within the School of Management. Normal entry criteria will apply. The 10% discount will be administered automatically through the enrolment process.

MSc International Banking and Financial Studies

One bursary (Sir Edward Holden Educational Trust) to cover some of the tuition fees for well qualified self-financing UK resident student. All UK resident students enrolling on this MSc programme will automatically be considered and the successful student will be contacted at the end of September.

International Postgraduate Taught MSc and MBA Scholarships

The International Postgraduate Taught Scholarships are available to applicants from all International countries, with the exception of mainland China.

We are delighted to announce that we are offering scholarships of £3,000 and £5,000 to applicants who have been offered a place on one of the School’s MSc programmes or the MBA programme starting September 2015. These scholarships will be in the form of a tuition fee reduction.

To qualify for one of our £5,000 scholarships you must have achieved a 1st class in your Bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent GPA from your country).

To qualify for one of our £3,000 scholarships you must have achieved a 2:1 in your Bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent GPA from your country).

If you are successful in gaining a place with us this scholarship will mean an automatic reduction in your tuition fees. When we send your offer letter to you we will also write to you to let you know you are eligible for one of our Scholarships. Providing you accept our offer of a place on either the MSc or MBA programme and meet all the conditions of your offer, we will confirm your Scholarship, and the amount you are to be awarded, before the programmes start in September 2015.

Postgraduate Taught Excellence in English Scholarships

The Excellence in English Scholarship is available to applicants from mainland China only. This scholarship will be in the form of a tuition fee reduction.

We are delighted to announce that we are offering a scholarship of £3,000 to applicants who have been offered a place on one of the School’s MSc programmes or the MBA programme starting September 2015.

To qualify for one of our £3,000 scholarships you must achieve either an IELTS of 7.0 overall with 6.5 in all components OR an IELTS of 7.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in all components.

If you are successful in gaining a place with us this scholarship will mean an automatic reduction in your tuition fees. When we send your offer letter to you we will also write to you to let you know you are eligible for one of our Scholarships. Providing you accept our offer of a place on either the MSc or MBA programme and meet all the conditions of your offer, we will confirm your Scholarship before the programmes start in September 2015.

UK and EU Postgraduate Taught Scholarships

These competitive scholarships are available to all UK and EU applicants who have been offered a place on a full-time MSc programme (this scholarship is not applicable to the MBA programme).

Applicants who obtain a 1st or very good 2.1 classification in their Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) are eligible to apply for one of the 20 scholarships to the value of £5,000* each.

An application form is required and the deadline for the application to reach us is 31 July 2015. Please download the application form here.

* The scholarship consists of £2,000 tuition fee reduction at enrolment and £3,000 living expense allowance paid by 4 quarters at 1 October, 1 February, 1 April and 1 July (or the next working day if it falls on a weekend, university closure day or bank holiday)

Criteria

These scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will be awarded by the Director of Postgraduate Studies based on the following criteria:

1. You must be a UK/EU national.

2. You must have applied and been offered a place on a MSc programme

3. You must hold a 1st or very good 2.1 classification (or equivalent GPA) in a Bachelors Degree

4. You must have submitted the application form to us by 31 July 2015 and attached in the application a 500 word personal statement containing:

• Evidence of academic or career progression and any professional achievement;

• How the MSc programme would enhance your career prospects.

The decision on the recipients of the scholarships will be made within 3 weeks following the deadline.

The recipients should not be in receipt of any other scholarship or bursary from the University of Southampton except the University alumni discount, if applicable.

Additional Home and EU Scholarships - Full-time MBA programme only

£5,000 Competitive Scholarships

We are also delighted to announce that we have a number of competitive scholarships for the MBA programme worth £5,000. These Scholarships are available to applicants from the UK and EU only. There will be 2 awards for UK applicants and 2 awards for EU applicants – 4 awards in total.

The Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will be awarded by the MBA programme director based on the following criteria:

1 - You must have applied and been offered a place on the University of Southampton MBA programme

2 - You must hold a 2.1 or 1st classification in a Bachelors Degree (or equivalent GPA)

3 - You must have submitted a 500 - 750 words personal statement containing:

• Evidence of career progression and professional achievement;

• How the MBA would enhance your career prospects;

• How your work experience to date can be made relevant to peers/colleagues on the MBA programme

These scholarships will be in the form of a tuition fee reduction.

Part-time Home and EU Scholarships – MBA programme only

£5,000 Scholarships (£2,500 awarded in each part-time year of study)

We are also pleased to be able to award a number of competitive part-time MBA scholarships worth £5,000. As this is for part-time study, the scholarship will be spread over the 2 years and successful applicants will be awarded a tuition fee reduction of £2,500 in Year 1 and £2,500 in Year 2.

The scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will be awarded by the MBA programme director based on the following criteria:

1 - You must have applied and been offered a place on the University of Southampton MBA programme

2 - You must hold a 2.1 or 1st classification in a Bachelors Degree (or equivalent GPA)

3 - You must have submitted a 500 - 750 words personal statement containing:

• Evidence of career progression and professional achievement;

• How the MBA would enhance your career prospect;

• How your work experience to date can be made relevant to peers/colleagues on the MBA programme

Please note:

The Scholarships listed above are only for 2015 entry. If you are unable to take up your place this year and subsequently re-apply for 2016 entry, Scholarships will not automatically carry over to 2016 entry. Scholarships also only apply to the Southampton Business School and will not apply if you change your programme to another School/Faculty.

All these MSc and MBA Scholarships are offered at the discretion of the Southampton Business School and the decisions as to the awards are final and not open to review. The School reserves the right not to award all or indeed any Scholarship(s) in any particular year.
