About

Professor Laura Costanzo is Dean of the University of Southampton Business School. During her five-year tenure, the School has expanded significantly in size and scope, secured major investments, relocated to a state-of-the-art building, and achieved multiple international accreditations and recognitions. Most recently, Laura led the School’s autonomous repositioning within the University and its successful rebranding.

Laura holds a PhD in Business Studies and Innovation from the University of Leeds. She has published in journals such as Academy of Management Review, British Journal of Management, International Journal of Management Reviews, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, Journal of Small Business Management, European Management Review, Gender, Work and Organization, and is also an Editor (Strategy and Entrepreneurship) of the European Management Review. Her research interests centre on the strategic management and entrepreneurial behaviour of family businesses. She has successfully supervised 17 PhD theses to completion.

Laura’s career spans more than 20 years across industry and academia. She began as a business consultant in several European countries before joining the University of Leeds as a Research Fellow at the International Institute of Banking & Finance, working on industry-funded projects focused on innovation models in the UK financial services sector. She then held a lectureship in Strategic Management at the University of Surrey before joining the University of Southampton in 2014 as Associate Professor of Strategy. She was promoted in 2016 to Full Professor and Chair of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

At Southampton, Laura has also served as Director of the PhD Programme, and as Head of the Department of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In 2022, she was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship by the International Rotary. Internationally, she mentors business schools pursuing AACSB accreditation, she serves on peer review teams for AACSB and AMBA, and is an experienced external examiner of PhD theses at UK and overseas universities.
