The Strategy and Innovation research group focuses on regional and international dimensions of strategy and innovation, strategy and innovation practices, knowledge and innovation networks, and service innovation.

Group Overview

The Group is closely integrated into the UK innovation research community (particularly emerging from AIM with strong links to BIS and UK~IRC).

Members of the group have attracted funding from the UK Research Council (ESRC), the EU 7th Framework Programme, the OECD, the British Council, Tesco, Barclays, Santander, and from government departments (e.g. Department for Business, Innovation and Skills).

Group members have edited and contributed to 'innovation' focused special issues of leading international journals e.g. Howells Journal of Economic Geography (ABS 4*), with two group members holding significant editorial roles (Howells as Editor of R&D Management and Karatas-Ozkan as the Editorial Board Member of the British Journal of Management and International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship).

Research interests include knowledge networks, strategy in the retail sector, service innovation, green innovation, financial innovation, neuro-innovation, strategy development and implementation, and business gaming simulation as a learning medium.
