Praw Maneerat MSc Actuarial Science

Hi, I'm Praw Maneerat and I am studying MSc Actuarial Science.

The University offers wide range of extra-curricular activities. These include student societies, sport clubs, field trips, etc. It is a very good opportunity to make new friends and relax from class.

Why did you choose to study at Southampton?

MSc Actuarial Science at University of Southampton is an accredited programme (Institute and Faculty of Actuaries).

What other activities did you take advantage of while at University?

I applied for a HOST (hostuk.org) visit during Christmas and had great experiences. I learnt about British cultures, joined traditional Christmas party, and visited many nice beaches in Cornwall.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

The most enjoyable part of the course for me is when I was doing the dissertation. I had an opportunity to integrate all the knowledge from the course and perform a study based on real data from a life insurance company.

What have been the highlights of your career to date?

I am a senior manager and a head of product valuation team of actuarial department.

How did your time at Southampton help you to grow as a person and help you get to where you are now?

My career progression is faster than average. One reason is because I have an actuarial qualification.

What advice would you give to a student starting their degree at Southampton?

What tips would you give to current students looking to start a career in your sector?

Being an actuary, mathematical skill is essential. However, actuaries would have additional advantage in their career by having knowledge on accounting, investment, programming, and presentation.
