Generalization of the Lincoln-Petersen estimator achieved
A generalization of the Lincoln-Petersen estimator for determining the size of an elusive population was reached by a colloboration between S3RI at the University of Southampton, the Statistical Services Center at the University of Reading and the Department of Biostatistics of Ege University in Izmir (Turkey) within the ERASMUS exchange programme for teaching staff exchange. The newly developed estimator uses multiple indentifications in one source and shows higher precision, so that predictions can be made with higher accuracy. Case studies include the estimation of the completeness of the surveillance system of transmittable diseases in Izmir as well as the estimation of illiegal immigration in the Netherlands. The results are now published in the leading journal for medical statistics Statistics in Medicine and are avalible at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/sim.6208/pdf.
