Dr Benjamin Cerfontaine (Department of Civil, Maritime and Environmental Engineering) delivered a Bright Spark lecture at the third Symposium on Energy Geotechnics (SEG23) held in Delft on 3-5 October. His lecture focused on his work on silent piling solutions for offshore wind turbine foundations.

Bright Spark awards are supported by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), representing 90 Member Societies and 20,000 individual members worldwide.

The Bright Spark award was created for promising young Geotechnical Engineers in both industry and academia to deliver keynote and invited lectures at conferences organised under the auspices of the ISSMGE. On average, less than 10 awards are attributed each year to geotechnical engineers under 37 years old, after a selection by a committee and endorsement by the president of the ISSMGE.
