Winner of the Outstanding Staff Team award: Farm4Life

This initiative redistributes unwanted university furniture and materials by the Farm4Life charity in Ghana. Farm4Lifes supports the poor and vulnerable through education and the provision of resources, to encourage self-sufficiency within individuals and small businesses. In the last year alone, the team have diverted over two tonnes of potential waste, saving approximately 14286kg of carbon. Not only does this create environmental and social improvements, it also saves the university money as the items no longer need to be placed in a skip. The items provided by the university so far include:
- over 100 pairs of curtains from halls of residences to be used to teach women new skills such as hand and machine sewing
- over 100 chairs and tables to be used in schools, colleges and a local psychiatric hospital
This has supported Farm4Life in its aims of providing the resources to enable local individuals and organisations to be self-sufficient.
