Fees and funding for international students

Find out everything you need to know about international student finances at undergraduate or postgraduate level, including tuition fees and scholarships for international students.

With fixed tuition fees and a discount for payment in full, we aim to make studying at the University of Southampton affordable.

Southampton International Merit Scholarships

The University of Southampton is proud to introduce the Southampton International Merit Scholarships for 2016/17 entrants, awarding up to £5,000 per student. The Southampton International Merit Scholarships seek to recognise talented international students across our subject areas for foundation, undergraduate and masters courses and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to attracting bright, ambitious students from all backgrounds onto our courses.

Scholarships available for international foundation year students

Foundation Year

Scholarships of up to £5000 are available for selected international students applying for the International Foundation Year who have very good academic high school results.

Scholarships available for undergraduate international students

Undergraduate

Scholarships of up to £3000 are available to international students applying for undergraduate courses who have excellent exam results.

Scholarships available for postgraduate international students

Postgraduate taught

Scholarships of up to £5000 are available for selected students applying for masters courses.

Funding for international postgraduate research students

There are a number of different funding opportunities available for international postgraduate research students, both from the University and from our external partners. These opportunities include the Postgraduate Research Scholarship fund, which awards successful applicants £7,000 per year for three years.

We welcome students whose studies are sponsored through embassies, Governments and employers worldwide. There may be country-specific funding available for students from your country or region.

Fees

Fixed tuition fees

International students starting at the University from the 2016/17 and 2017/18 academic years will pay the same fixed fee for each year of their course up to a maximum of four years.

Tuition fee discounts

You will receive a one per cent discount if you pay in full by 28 September 2016. If you have studied with us before, you could also receive 10 per cent off postgraduate course fees.

International fees

We generally charge two levels of fee. A ‘home’ fee applies for United Kingdom and European Union (EU) students. A higher ‘overseas’ fee applies for students from countries outside the EU.

Standard and non-standard fees

Some courses have non-standard fees, which are set by the individual academic unit. Please contact your academic unit directly for details of non-standard fees.

What is included in the fee?

Our fees for full-time study for international students from outside the EU include the full cost of tuition, examinations, Students' Union membership and research support expenses (where applicable).

Undergraduate fees for the 2017/18 academic year

All undergraduate fees for the 2017/18 academic year will be updated on our undergraduate fees pages in Summer 2016.
