Event details

Join our art and design Easter course at Winchester School of Art.

This course, completely free for attendees, aims to allow you to sample a cross-section of art and design disciplines within the setting of a University; exploring and experimenting with different techniques, learning new skills and developing work for use in a portfolio.

Students will be expected to attend all four days of the course. All materials will be provided, though you will need to bring your own packed lunch.

Course Programme

Generative Observation – Monday 8th April

Students will experiment with unusual drawing materials and methods, to explore drawing as a starting point for artwork. The focus will be on generating many works in a short period of time, that can be stand alone pieces, or foundations for more developed pieces. Students will then chose one object to work from to develop a paper sculpture with recycled materials.

Fine Art Embroidery - Tuesday 9th April

Students will begin by learning a series of different embroidery techniques to broaden their knowledge base. Then they will develop a small sampler developing these skills.

Eco-recycled Printmaking – Thursday 11th April

Two part session, focusing on tetra-pak printing, and collagraphs. Students will explore both methods using accessible at home and found materials such as cardboard, tetra-paks, and string, to encourage experimentation and inexpensive making.

Experiemental artists books / Portfolio Development – Friday 12th April

Explore a series of folded and glued short book art techniques, students will choose their favourite to render. The end of the session with explore portfolio development, and using the work they have made during the session to add to university application portfolios.
