Ms Carmen Villa-Garcia is the Laboratory Manager of the Advanced Composite Materials Facility in the Chemistry department, University of Southampton.

Carmen graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 2012 and a Masters degree in “Sustainable Water Management and Water Technologies” in 2013 from the Universidad de Alicante. In her role as Laboratory Manager within the Advanced Composite Materials Facility, she is responsible for training all research staff and research students on the correct use and protocols of all experimental apparatus. In addition to this, she ensures all the protocols are followed by our researchers and visitors, ensuring availability of materials and samples to keep the laboratory working, as well as giving full support to all our researchers by testing samples and keeping the instruments in working order.

Carmen also has experience within the water industry, having designed an analytical method to determine substances in drinking water as well as characterisation of drinking water and sea water.

- High-throughput Physical Vapour Deposition (HT-PVD)

- High throughput characterisation of thin film materials

- X-ray diffraction of thin film materials
