Student Support Fund

We aim to recruit and retain the best and brightest students, whatever their background. The Student Support Fund helps to provide financial support to students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a variety of subject areas.

Supporting research students

Donors to our Student Support Fund are allowing us to ensure that financial circumstances never prevent talented students from fulfilling their potential at the University.

The Student Support Fund is a flexible fund which allows us to respond to the needs of our students as they arise. This could mean providing emergency hardship support to a student who finds themselves in financial difficulty due to unforeseen circumstance, or providing a scholarships to one of our postgraduate research students to enable them to progress our cutting-edge research.

Liam’s story

Liam was in his final year of medicine when increasing living costs threatened to prevent him from completing his degree. He found himself having to borrow from family and friends just to make ends meet, and was constantly worried.

He applied to the Student Support Fund for assistance, and his financial situation was assessed by a trained advisor in the Student Services team using thoroughly researched figures of average expenditure. On the back of this assessment Liam was awarded a grant to see him through the rest of the year. This is what Liam had to say about the experience:

Without the Student Support Fund I don’t know what I would have done. The support I received meant that I could stop worrying, concentrate on my final exams and enjoy my last few months at university. The service provided was amazing and I felt immediately reassured and listened too.
