MS 3 Bullar manuscripts

The Library Catalogue Part II (Southampton, 1876) pp. 39-56. There was, in addition, a small quantity of manuscript material which has now been grouped to form MS 3.

MS 3/1 A manuscript volume, entitled 'The charter of the town of Southampton anno regni regis Caroli 1st xvi', containing an analysis of the charter, with a commentary on its contents, by John Speed, mid 18th century

This is in all probability the 'earlier work' referred to in The history and antiquity of Southampton with some conjectures concerning the Roman clausentum by John Speed MD ed. E.R.Aubrey (Southampton Record Society, 8; 1909) pp. xxxii-xxxiii. The volume was apparently presented to the Corporation of Southampton in 1759.
