MS 360 Small collections of nineteenth-century military papers


MS 360/1   ‘Journal du blocure de la place de Barcelonne’ with a daily record from 1 February to 3 June 1814 of the French forces. The journal, was signed by F.Mongeur, the Commissaire Ordonnateur for Barcelona, at Perpignan on 3 June 1814.

The journal is a paper booklet sewn together with cotton, which has been numbered 659-90 in ink. It formerly formed part of a larger series of documents relating to the administration of Barcelona in 1814. MS 360/2, which has been written by the same individual, is the next document in the sequence.

MS 360/2  General report, in French, on the administration of the siege of Barcelona by the armée d’Aragon et de Catalogne, between 1 January and 28 May 1814.

The report gives details of the period of the evacuation of the place, as well as of the food and consumption of foodstuffs and expenditure on supplies during this period. There is a detailed analysis of the composition of the forces, the different corps of troops, companies and detachments making up the garrison at Barcelona. It was signed at Toulouse by F.Mongeur, the Commissaire Ordonnateur for Barcelona, on 23 June 1814.

The report is a paper booklet sewn together with cotton, which has been numbered 691-728 in ink. It formerly formed part of a larger series of documents relating to the administration of Barcelona in 1814. It is the succeeding document to MS 360/1.

MS 360/3  Coloured pen and ink sketch map centred on San Miguel de Fluvia, including Castañet in the north, Santa Eulalia de Palau to the west, Santo Tomás to the east and Sant Mori to the south.

The map marks the roads, the River Fluvia to the south of San Miguel and the villages and inhabitations are marked with small red squares.

MS 360/4  Copy of a letter, in French, from General Delachasse de Nerigez [?], Jerez, to Colonel Basilo Garcia, informing him that he has been appointed commander of Jerez de la Frontier for the King of Spain, 23 Jun 1823.

The corps under Garcia’s command was to form part of the French forces invading Andalusia, part of the French forces fighting to restore Ferdinand VII to the throne of Spain.

MS 360/5  Five papers, in Spanish, relating to the distribution of 60,000 ‘reales de vellón’ for the payment of troops during the Peninsular War or Spanish War of Independence, Jun 1808.

MS 360/5/1 and MS 360/5/5 are from Augustin a Dublaisel, Calatayud, to Francisco Rebolledo de Palafox y Melzi, with Palafox’s notes and signature on the left side of the documents of action taken.
