Fulcrum Debate

Published: 21 March 2014

Genetic Research and Identity: Scientific understanding of genetics and epigenetics continues to grow, giving unprecedented insight into the role of genes in our lives. As we become more and more aware of how we become who we are genetically, our sense of personhood and individuality is shifting: how much control do we have over who we are; how do we define and describe ourselves and those around us?

 Fulcrum: Who are we?

An informal panel discussion examining the cultural and societal implications of genetic discoveries on our individual and collective sense of self, family and identity featuring Anneke Lucassen and Karen Temple from Southampton University’s science faculties and Clare Hanson and Jim Osborne from Southampton University’s department of English.
