These range from improved imaging techniques to novel methods of drug delivery and artificial tissue and bone manufacture. However, we are probably now at the threshold where the bride and groom return home and face reality! There are many issues surrounding “what happens next” if nanoparticles are introduced into the body for diagnosis, therapy or repair. This will have implications for regulation and manufacture not to mention the health of patients and possible environmental effects. Nevertheless, some of the current generation of research outputs are pointing the way to improved treatment via reduced doses of existing drug agents and new therapies based on the local generation of free radicals and examples of these will be given.
