The Biggest Celebration of the Chinese New Year

For two days, 2nd – 3rd February 2019, big celebrations at the city centre to welcome the Chinese New Year were jointly held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton, Shaolin Temple in Southampton and Chinese Association of Southampton.

Guildhall Square, John Hansard Gallery and West Quay Shopping Centre were crowded with local people to enjoy the Chinese music and folk dances, Kong Fu and Tai Chi performances and  Chinese culture workshops.

The growing interest to Chinese culture of around 3,000 people from Southampton and nearby areas made the events very remarkable.
