The Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, falls on June 14, 2021. A variety of teaching activities have been carried out at the Confucius Institute to help British students who are learning Chinese to understand the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival and the stories behind it.

At Bohunt Worthing, Miss Wu assigned students to find out about the Dragon Boat Festival the week before it took place and then invited them to share what they learned about the Dragon Boat Festival. Miss Chen from Hope Community School introduced the Dragon Boat Festival to students using videos, and let the students see, touch, smell and learn about the traditional food eaten during the festival-rice dumplings. At Mansbridge Primary School, Miss Zhang shared videos with the students, discussed the Dragon Boat Festival with them, and let the students experience the fun of making paper rice dumplings.

Culture is a window through which to understand a nation. We hope that more Chinese learners will develop an interest in the Chinese language and China through the unique flavours of festival culture.
